This nationally-acclaimed horse show is considered an important November training show for future Olympian equestrians.

If you are a show rider, you know the show season winds down during fall. It is the time for medal finals and championship shows, and when riders in contention for year-end awards are gathering their last few points.

The Santa Barbara National Amateur Horse Show, is the last show of the season, and is known as the "Turkey Show" since it is held over the Thanksgiving week at Earl Warren Showgrounds. It features wonderful horse shows, entertainment, dancing and awards ceremony.

Flat Classes for riders start at age:

  • 6 & under,
  • 8 year olds, 9 year olds, etc.

Hunters and Equitation

  • Over Fences classes start with the 7 & under,
  • Jumper classes start with the 8 & under.

Team Jumper competition with points being kept in each age group. (The team winners of each class are awarded sashes to wear in the next day's class) Adults have their own set of classes including:

  • two age groups of jumpers,
  • three age groups of hunters and flat classes,
  • awards for individual classes.

The National Amateur Horse Show sponsors turkey dinner on Thanksgiving evening. All the barns compete for prizes by decorating their dinner tables, and awards are presented for table decorations in a variety of categories. Other entertainment includes a pinata for little kids, a limbo contest, and dancing.
